Updating GiAPA

To update to the current GiAPA release please 

  1.  Login in the left column

  2.  Click here:  Download latest update

  3.  Download the zipped iSeries save file, unzip it on your PC

  4.  Use e.g. FTP to send the save file to an existing *SAVF on your iSeries

  5.  Backup GIAPALIB, then restore the save file to GiAPALIB:

  6.  RSTOBJ ALL GIAPALIB *SAVF SAVF(nameMBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

    CALL   GIAPALIB/GIAPAINST

V02M04E released 30 January 2012

Correction: Call Stack might report incorrect program name(s) if user had non-US CCSID. For data kept in other libraries than GIAPALIB use command CALL GIAPALIB/GIAPACHGPF OTHERLIBNAME where OTHERLIBNAME is the name of the alternative GIAPA data library.

New command added: GIAPA015 = Display User Space.

New user space code example added to source file GIAPALIB/GIAPAEXAMP.

Records rejected (due to unrealistic high values from perf.coll. API) are written to new GIAPA143P9 file.

Incorrect FTP error message (after successful data transfer) was removed.

Problem fixed: Expansion might get security code error if data collection was ended abnormally.

Restart added for retrieval of job accounting data in case CHGJRN was used during data collection.

ColdSpot collection for interactive jobs improved.

Interval statistics can now report CPU usage exceeding 999 % of processor capacity allocated for LPAR.

Various kosmetic changes to a number of display files.

Fixed: Cancellation of data collection could cause Expension to end abnormally.

 

V02M04C released 10 November 2011

New reports and graphics were added to GiAPA Menu option 21, allowing detailed and summarized documentation of amongst others CPU usage exceeding the capacity of the assigned processors for uncapped LPARs.

Added rename and expiration date change for expanded data (Option 82).

Added expiration date change for unexpanded performance data (Option 81)

Use of ? in GiAPA Graphics displays GiAPA user manual without requesting password.

Added rec.count info to prompt for file text in File Analysis display.

Error in prompt for text by display of entire call stack corrected.

Job Watch (Menu option 12) could get time-out on fast machines - fixed.

Clarified text of error message issued in case of invalid selection.

Enhanced calculation of estimated potential superfluous reads in File Analysis Summary. 

Added GiAPA version/modification message to job log of GiAPA jobs.

Included display file GIAPA165D1 (missing in V02M04B).

Error corrections:

Automatic restart of GiAPA could cause HotSpot limit to be set 10 times too high.

Batch expansion and analysis might end abnormally.

Batch generation of user defined graphics would incorrectly send error message.

This new release contains so many improvements that we send out separate information (4 pages) to all existing customers. Her are only a few highlights:

  • Graphics options increased considerably, allowing detailed selection down to job-id and 15 seconds collection interval, including new chart types and specification of colors to use, and user definition of texts and how/if values should be shown.
  • Batch queue wait time available.
  • Interval statistics were completely recoded to a more user friendly layout.

 

Feb. 2010: Customers in various countries experienced loops in IBM APIs QDMLOPNF or QVWRCSTK, called during GiAPA performance data collection. IBM has issued PTFs SI38025 and SI38033 for V6R1, and SI38390 for V5R4 of the operating system.
